positive correlation:Same direction of change for both sets of paired data: ex: as one set of data increases in value, or decreases in value, so does the other.  

 

Negative correlation: Opposite direction of change for the two sets of data. As one increases, the other decreases.

 

No correlation: there is no detectable relationship between changes (ex: increases) in the one set of data, and the other set.
