There were many well-known satirists of the 18th century, including Dryden himself. Strictly speaking, a work of criticism cannot "foreshadow" anything, as foreshadowing is a literary device used in literature. His critical work may have anticipated future developments in the field, but satire was already happening when Dryden wrote, he was in fact the subject of some quite brutal theatrical satire in the form the "The Rehearsal" which lampoons him personally as performed by the rival patent theatre.
