Is this 1/4 on food?
If so, 1/4 + 1/3 = 7/12.  $400 is what is left:  5/12 of his salary.  (400)/(5/12)=400*12/5=960.  So, his salary is $960.

Yes it is 1/4 on food sorry
7/12 of 960 is 560 and not 400
so I don't understand
