Let R = rowing rate and C = current rate
(R+C)*2 = 18
(R-C)*2 = 8
Divide each equation by 2, then add the equations to eliminate C.
Solve for R and use this value to get C.

2R=13 means R=6.5 & C=2.5. If that is what you did, it is correct. Just to be pedantic: you didn’t cross out the C’s; you added and C-C = 0. I hope that helps.

My setup: (R+C)•2=18 divided by 2= R+C=9 (R-C)•2=8 divided by 2= R-C=4 I crossed out the C’s and ended up with: 2R=13 I divided 13 by 2 R= 2.5 Did I solve it correctly?02/28/19
