Since we are trying to find how much pizza was eaten on Monday AND Tuesday, we need to add the two. Adding fractions can only be done if the fractions have the same denominator (the bottom number). If they have the same denominator, then you add the numerators (top numbers) and keep the denominator.
In this case, 10 is the denominator for both fractions. So, add 9 and 3 to make the new numerator and keep the 10 as the denominator (12/10).
You can reduce this fraction (divide top and bottom by 2), and you can turn it into a mixed number (divide bottom into top).
