How many inches tall?

Kelly is using 3-inch square tiles to cover a 4-foot by 2-foot area. The tiles are 0.5 inches tall. If the tiles were stacked on top of each other to create a tower, how many inches tall would the tower be?

4 foot by 2 foot area is 8 square feet or 1152 square inches...

 

each tile is 9 square inches

 

so we need (1152/9 = 128) tiles

 

If we stack them up the stack will be 128(1/2)= 64 inches tall
