Can I see everything in the space without using my torch’s light?

Is space is full of thick darkness? Can I see the things in space without my torch's light?

I didn't mention the word 'star' anywhere, the things in the space may be anything such as stones, dust or anything that do not produce light themselves. In films i have seen that things in space are clearly shown. All I want to know is can I see things that do not produce light by themselves.
