What are these letters doing in my equations? Here comes algebra!
Hi Donte--
Your big clue here is that Savannah and Sebastian are twins--so they are the same age.
So Savannah's age-- "Ryan + 24"-- is the same as Sebastians, which is "Ryan times 5."
So r + 24 = 5r (that's the actual equation that answers the question above.)
And here's how to solve it:
Subtract an "r" from each side and you are left with
24 = 4r. Divide each side by 4 and you get
6 = r. Ryan is 6 years old.
Savannah is 6 + 24, which equals 30; and Sebastian is 6 x 5, which also equals 30--which makes sense because those 2 are twins (the same age).
