Kate is hanging pictures on her wall. Each picture is 16x20 inches. The pictures are equally spaced on the wall that is 17 feet long and 9 feet high. Two of the pictures are hung vertically and the middle picture is hung horizontally. How much space is in between each picture?

17 feet = 204 inches

204/16 = 12 pictures in each row

there is 12 inches remaining, so 1 inch between each picture in the row

9 feet = 108 inches

108/20 = 5 rows

there is 8 inches remaining, so 8/5 = 1 and 3/5 inches = 1.6 inches between each row
