the 8-ounce can is cheaper

look at it this way...

if the 8-ounce can costs $1.14, then you are paying $0.57 for 4 ounces

if you add 4 more ounces to the 8-ounce can at this rate, you get 12 ounces for $1.14+$0.57=$1.71 compared to the other can which is 12 ounces for $1.75, which is 4 cents cheaper
