Find the dimensions of the triangle

Question

triangle has an area of 68 ft sq. If the height of the triangle is 1 ft longer than twice the base, find the dimensions of the triangle. I think I’m setting it up wrong. I keep getting stuck.

h = height (or altitude) and b = base

Area = (1/2)bh

h = 2b + 1

area = (1/2)b(2b + 1) = 68

$2b^2+b=136$

$2b^2+b-136=0$

The quadratic formula gives an extraneous root and b = 8; h = 17
