An object is thrown downward from the top of the building which is 195 m high at an initial velocity of 16m/sec. How long does it take to reach the ground?

I want to use the quadractic equation to find the answer to this problem. I’ve surfed the net for the equation but some of them either are unreliable or have a complicated explanation on how they did it.

Ok so we are looking for the time here

we use the following equation y = vt+1/2at^2

v here is the initial velocity and y = 195 at ground y initial we can take it to be 0

so 195 = 16t+4.9t^2 solve this quad

use quad formula we get t=4.883 sec
