I will take a different approach to solve this problem. I am going to use the point slope form. You might recall the point slope form is
y-y1= m(x-x1), where m is the slope, incline, of the line and (x1, y1) represents a point that lies on the line. So, in this problem, I will use -4 for x1 and 1 for y1. Substituting into the point slope form
y- y1= m(x-x1)
y-(1)= (-6)[x-(-4)] x-(-4) becomes x+ 4.
y-1 = -6(x+4) Using the Distributive Property
y-1 = -6x -24 Adding 1 to both sides
+1 +1
y = -6x -23 This is the Slope-Intercept Form
+ 6x +6x Adding six x to both sides
6x + y =- 23 This is the Standard Form
