Use energy conservation: Ki + Ui = Kf + Uf
a) At the top of the waterslide, Ki = 0. The maximum speed occurs when hf = 0, so Uf = 0.
Ui = Kf
mghi = ½mvf2
vf = √(2ghi) = √(2·9.8·51.38) = 31.7 m/s
b) The maximum speed is reached at the bottom of the waterslide.
c) Ki = 0 at the top of the waterslide. hf = 17 m.
Ui = Kf + Uf
mghi = ½mvf2 + mghf
vf = √[2g(hi - hf)] = 26.0 m/s
