Lee works for a non charter axhool where funds do not allow for class size reduction policies. Lee’s fifth-grade class has 1.5 times as many students as Fred.

If there are total 55 students, how many students does Fred have? (Round your answers to the nearst whole number.)

• Lee's class has 1.5 times as many students as Fred
• There are 55 students total

This means that if Fred has 1 student, then Lee has 1.5 students. This doesn't really make sense, so let's use that if Fred has 2 students, the Lee has 3 (1.5 + 1.5) students.

 

 

 

This means that there for every group of 5 students, 2 are in Fred's class and 3 are in Lee's class.

 

 

When we divide 55 by 5, we get 11. There are 11 groups of 5 students.

 

 

11 * 2 = 22

11 * 3 = 33

 

Lee has 33 students and Fred has 22.
