A runner moves with a velocity of 3m/s due east for 60 seconds. the runner then comes to rest for 30 second, then turns around and heads due west with a velocity of 4m/s for 60 seconds.

4(60) = 240

 

240 + 180 = 420 meters

 

We have to account for the 30 seconds of rest, so his totsl time is 60 + 60 + 30 = 150 seconds.

 

420 meters/150 seconds = 2.8 m/s
