A Triangle ABC has a right angle at B.

The Length OF AB is (3x-3)cm and the length of BC is (x+1)cm. 

Find the perimeter when the area is 14m2.

Area = 1/2(Base)(Height)

 

14 = 1/2(3x-3)(x+1)  multiply by 2 to get rid of the fraction and them FOIL

 

28= 3x² -3x +3x -3  and simplify

 

28 = 3x² - 3  solve for x

 

x = sqrt(31/3)
