width = W

 

L = 8+ 3W

 

2L + 2W = 64  formula for perimeter

 

2(8 + 3W) + 2W = 64

 

16 + 6W + 2W = 64

 

8W = 48

 

W = 6

 

L = 8 + 3(6) = 26

 

now check it : 6 + 6 + 26 + 26 = 64   it checks
