a + b = 44
b/3 + a + 12
Since we have "just" a in both, I'd do it this way.
a = 44 - b
a = 12 - b/3
Now, since a equals two things, thet equal each other.
44 - b = 12 - b/3
32 = 2b/3
2b = 96
b = 48
a = 44 - 48
a = -4
