One positive integer is 3 less than twice another. The sum of their squares is 233 find the integer

n = one integer

2n - 3 = the other integer

 

n² + (2n - 3)² = 233

 

n² + (4n² -12n + 9) = 233

 

5n² - 12n - 224 = 0

 

Solve using the quadratic formula.  The positive integer solution is

 

n = 8
