Combined pieces

Question

A rope is cut into 3 pieces. One piece is 3 inches longer than the shortesr piece and 5 inches shorter than the longest piece. If the total combined pieces are 92 , how long is each piece.

X - 3 = shortest piece

X  = middle piece

X + 5 = longest piece

 

(X - 3) + X + (X + 5) = 92

3X + 2 = 92

3X = 90

X = 30

Smallest = 27

Medium = 30

longest = 35
