First, set the two equations equal, and solve the result.
So -5(x + 0.63)2 - 2.3 = -x - 5.
This becomes 5(x + .63)2 + x + 2.7 = 0
-5(x2 + 1.26x + .3969)+ x + 2.7 = 0
-5x2 - 6.3x - 1.9845 + x + 2.7 = 0
-5x2 - 5.3x + .7155= 0. This gives x = -1.18115, and x = .12115.
Plugging these back into the linear equation makes
your answer (-1.18115, -3.81885) and (.12115, -5.12115)
I believe, reading the problem, is that this is to be done on a graphing calculator, by putting one eqauation as y1 and the other as y2, and finding their intersections. I hope this helps.
