Let S = the smaller number and L = larger number

 

S + L = 2670

 

L = 5S  .....Substitute the value of L in the above equation, you get

 

S + 5S = 2670

 

6S = 2670

 

S = 2670 / 6 = 445

 

Three times the smaller # = 3 x 445 = 1335
