Let the length of the shortest cord be X feet.
Second cord is 6 feet longer than twice X which is ( 2X +6 )feet
The third is 8 feet less than 3 times X which is (3X - 8 ) feet
The total lenth is 100 feet
so, X + 2X + 6 + 3X - 8 = 100
combining the X terms and non x-terms
6X = 102
or X = 17
The other 2 cords are 40ft and 43ft
So length of the longest cord is 43 Feet
