Well in this problem we are given the information how many pounds of aluminum cans he brought to the center and we are given how much money he was given. What the problem is asking for is how much does the center pay for each pound of aluminum.
Well we know we brought in 12 pounds of aluminum and we know we received $3.36 for that.
So if we are looking for $ per pound we would set it up as such: How much money we received divided by how much we brought in.
That being said it would look like this: (3.36/12) which would come out to be $0.28 per pound.
So we receive 28 cents per pound of aluminum.
