Beverly left Andrew’s house and drove toward the mountain side of Virginia in Shenandoah
Valley. Three hours later, Andrew left, driving 30 mph faster than Beverly in an effort to catch
up with her. Three hours after he left, Andrew caught up with Beverly. Find each driver’s
average speed rate?

 R* 6 = (R+30)*3

 

 6R = 3R + 90

 

3R = 90

 

R=30

 

6 hours x 30 mph = 180 miles

3 hours x 60 mph = 180 miles
