Question

Roofing material costs $95.40 per square (10 ft by 10 ft). The roofer also charges $85.75 per square for labor and $7.65 per square for other supplies. Find the cost of installing a roof that is 2460 square feet (24.6 squares)

Because all the costs are based on a per square basis you can figure out how much the total cost per square will be to install by adding all the costs together:  $95.40 + $85.75 + $7.65 = $188.80/square.

Normally, from here you would simply multiply the number of squares needed, 24.6, by $188.80 to find the cost:

                                 24.6 squares X $188.80/square = $4644.48.

However, I believe a roofer would not charge for any partial squares, so the total squares might have to be rounded up to 25. Therefore, the total cost would then be:

                                 25 squares X $188.80/square = $4720.00.
