We have one 5 oz container. 

 

Step 1. Fill 5 oz container with the liq . So the 8 oz container has 3 oz left.

Step 2. Pour this 3 oz from 8 oz container to one 4 Oz container 

 

So the 8 oz container is emplt , one 4 oz container has 3 oz and the 5 oz container is full

 

Step 3. Take the 5 oz container and pour in the 2nd  4 oz container which will fill 4 oz and keep 1 oz balance in the 5 oz container. 

 

Step 4. Pour the 1 oz remaining into the 1st 4 oz container which already has 3 oz and now will have 4 oz
