Powers (exponents) are repeated multiplications. (-2)6 means to multiply -2 six times:
(-2)6 = (-2)·(-2)·(-2)·(-2)·(-2)·(-2) = 64
When you raise a negative number to a power, the answer will be positive if the exponent is even and negative if the exponent is odd.
