We know that kinetic energy is calculated using the equation:
KE = (1/2)mv2
To find out how much the energy changes if the velocity is increased by five times, we must replace v with 5v like this:
KE = (1/2)m(5v)2
KE = (1/2)m(25)v2
KE = (25)(1/2)mv2
and compared to the original equation, we can see that the energy is increased by a factor of 25.
