A softball player had 13 hits in 25 times at bat.What percent of her times at bat resulted in hits?

Let x = the percent of hits per at bat:

 

  13 hits           x%

25 at bats      100%

 

13 * 100

------------ = x%

     25

 

52% = x

For percentage problems, the general set up is:

 

(part divided by whole) times 100%

 

In this case, the part is 13, the number of hits. The whole is 25, the number of times she was at bat.

 

13/25 x 100% = 52%
