Trig has nothing to do with it! Domain and Range are related to any function.
Domain = {all possible values of the INPUT variable} and Range = {all possible values of the OUTPUT variable}
For example, if you look at the graph of y = tan(x), the input cannot be an odd multiple of +/- pi/2, the domain is usually expressed as the set of values excluded and the Range is the set of all possible OUTPUTs (y values). The Range of tan(x) is {all real numbers} because no y value is omitted.
