If a point is randomly selected inside a 1' x 1' square, what is the probability that it will be less than 6" from the center of the square? Express your answer as a common fraction in terms of x.

The area of the square is 144 in²  (12 in x 12 in)

The area of the circle is 9π in²

 

The probability of hitting the circle is 9π/144 or π/16

That is approximately 0.196.
