dividing pies

You have a business divided into 3 equal pieces. One of these pieces is divided between 2 people. One of these people decides to leave the business, cash out, taking his 1/6 of the shares with him. How will the business be distributed now? How will it affect the other 1/6 which shared 1/3 of the business with them?

I think that you meant: How will the 3 formerly equal pieces be distributed now?

 

 

You say that one sixth REMOVED ITSELF!! I will accept this statement, on faith.

At this point the amount of pie remaining in the pie pan is 2/3 + 1/6 = 5/6.

This amount may be 'DISTRIBUTED' in any way that you like, depending on how many lovers of pie there are, and depending on how you slice it, further, if at all. There's no other definite answer!

Hard to be sure what is wanted here: you have 2/3 + 1/6 of the pie left; if you divide each of the 1/3 size pieces in half, you will have 5/6 left.

 

BTW: you meant "formerly" not "formally"!
