Why the first term of the quadratic equation should be positive?

For example -3x^2+5x+8

According to my teacher the first time should be positive. Why?

The first term of a trinomial in an equation that one wishes to solve (e.g. -3x2+5x+8 = 0) is inconvenient to people who factor, simply because what we practice when learning factoring generally exhibits a positive leading coefficient.

In the case of any equation having this difficulty, we can multiply both sides by -1 and then we are on more familiar ground, e.g. let's solve 3x2-5x-8 = 0;  (3x-8)(x+1) = 0   and then we have solutions to that equation: {-1, 8/3}
