How do you do the surface area of a cylinder? -using semi circles?

here is a formula for the surface area of a cylinder.

the lateral area is Ch, i.e. the product of the Circumference of the circular top (also bottom) and the height.

The total surface area consists of one top, one congruent bottom, each being circular, plus the lateral area.

T.S.A. = 2(pi)r² + 2(pi)rh  where r is the radius and h is the height.
