sHow that x^2-6x-39=0

AT is a tangent to a circle, centre O. OT = X cm, AT = (X+5) cm and OA = ( X+8) cm. Point A is outside the circle at the end of the tangent. sHow that x^2-6x-39=0

Thanks Kenneth. I spotted it was a right angled triangle but I still don't get what I am showing. I was thinking it was the area of triangle 1/2 base x height but this doesn't work. Can you explain a bit more Please? Thank you so much.

Sure; I labeled all of the triangle's sides with the stated expressions (each involving x) and then applied the Pythagorean Theorem.
