Prove using a trigonometric identity.

Prove the following using a trigonometric identity:

cos(2θ)=cos(θ)

Mark M.

This is NOT and identity!
cos 2θ = cos2 θ - sin2 θ or
cos 2θ = 2cos2 θ - 1

Are you sure you have submitted the question correctly?
An identity is true for ALL values of the independent variable.
The equation you have submitted is  true only for some values of θ.
I suggest you graph y = cos(2θ) - cos(θ) to see that this is true.
