Writing equation in slope-intercept form

Question

A line passes through the point (8,-7)
and has a slope of -3/4

Write an equation in slope-intercept form for this line.

To find the slope:  (y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ -x₁) = (4-(-7))/(-3-8) = 11/-11 = -1

 

Slope Intercept form: y - y₁ = m(x - x₁)  or y - (-7) = -1(x - 8)

 

y + 7 = -x + 8

 

y = -x - 1

y = mx + b

 

m = -3/4

 

y = (-3/4)x + b

 

-7 = (-3/4)(8)+ b

 

b = -7 + 6 = -1

 

y = (-3/4)x - 1
