asked 05/29/18What are the effects of literary devices in a text?
Hi I am supposed to do this writing task where I have to write something about the content in another text and find literacy devices and write about the effect of these literary devices in the text. I'm having a hard time coming up with effects of the literacy devices, I can easily find them, but I just don't know what effect they create except for maybe making the text more interesting or something. Can you please help me? I especially want to find the effects of metaphor, simile and repetition.

Example: Jane is in debt.
Metaphor example: Jane is drowning in debt.
It is not possible to drown in debt. However, the use of this metaphor evokes thoughts about drowning: struggling, gasping for air, panicking, etc. This helps the reader to visualize the severity of Jane’s situation.
Example: John has a big appetite.
Simile example: John’s stomach is like an abyss.
This suggests that John is never satiated because his stomach is a bottomless pit. This emphasizes John’s appetite rather than just saying that he has a big appetite.
