When all else fails, you can just plug this in to the quadratic equation. It's a little hard to read if I write it out in a text box, so I recommend you google it if you don't know it! All quadratic expressions can be written in the form ax^2+bx+c. So in this example a=1, b=3, c=-5. When you use those values in the quadratic formula, you'll find that the solutions are:
x=(-3+√(29))/2 , (-3-√(29))/2
