The formula for the area of a rectangle is
area = length X width
The width = 2ft and the area = 28 sq ft. The problem chooses to represent the length by the variable x.
So, we can write the above equation as
28 = x X 2
or
2x = 28
Divide both sides by 2.
We get x = 28/2 = 14
x = 14 ft
