how do i write a algebraic equation to find the cost of renting a car for one day and driving m miles if the rate is $48 per day plus 35 cents per mile?

The problem tells you that your rent will be a fixed cost per day ($48) plus a fixed cost per mile ($0.35).

This is a classic description of a linear equation which has the standard form y = mx + b.

Please note that the "m" in my explanation and the "m" in this problem are NOT the same.

 

You  equation will have cost per day (c) equal to your variable  (m) times the rate per mile ($0.35) plus the constant per day cost ($48).  Now I have done everything except write the equation for you.  You do that!
