There are 440 students attending a biology lecture. The ratio of male to female students at the lecture is 6 to 5. How many men and women are attending the lecture?

440 students in ratio of male to female of 6 to 5

 

6x + 5x = 440

11x = 440

x = 40

 

6x = 240 male

5x = 200 female
