Page walked the 8 miles to Johns house. Running late to get back home, page picked the pace up an additional 2mph. The entire trip took 2.75 hours. What was pages rate on the return? What would an equation be for this?

r represents the rate to John's

r + 2 represents the rate home

 

t = d / r

t_{to John's} = 8 / r

t_home = 8 / (r +2)

 

the total time is 2.75

 

(8 / r) + [8 / (r + 2)] = 2.75
