How can a president keep a bill from becoming a law?

The alternatives are as follows a. Pocket veto a bill, b. line item veto the bill, c. Debate on the Senate floor and d. Override the bill.

Arturo O.

It seems like one of the correct choices is missing from the list:   Just plain veto a bill (as opposed to pocket veto).

Yes, that would also do it, at least if the veto is not overridden.  But a pocket veto can't be overridden because the legislative session is over.  The president can simply run out the clock.
