The formula for the sum of three consecutive integers is (x )+ (x+1) + (x+2). The problem is asking for the sum of two
consecutive integers that equal -131. The first number is always just x in finding the solution and the problem becomes:
(x) + (x+1) = -131. Simply solve for x to get the first number. 2x + 1 = -131. Subtract 1 from both sides becomes
2x = -132. Divide each side by 2 becomes the answer for the first number x = -66. If the first number is -66, the second
number is (-66+1) which is -65. Check your answer by adding -66 + (-65) = -131. Check, Done!! Go to the head of
