asked • 09/13/14lim (x+1)/(x+2)

x->3^{+}

how would a ^{+ }or ^{-} on c change anything when solving without a graph?

there is a vertical asymptote at x = -2

for x ≥ -2, the function is continuous.

therefore you can do direct substitution for the right handed limit

limit is 4/5

You need to determine whether the function is continuous at f(c). If it is then the right and left handed limits are equal. Otherwise they may not be. You still need to pay attention whether the question asks for + or - limits even without a graph. I guess I didn't make my point clear the first time.
