you are given two pieces of information about the farmland in state A.
1) the farmland in state A is 6% of all the farmland in the country
2) there are 28,000,000 acres of farmland in state A
Because both statements refer to the same thing, they must be equal.
Therefore if we call X the total farmland in the country, then 6% of X is the farmland in state A, which we also know is 28,000,000 acres.
From this we get our equation.
.06X = 28,000,000
divide both sides by .06
x = 4.6 x 108 acres
