Need Help understanding and Solving a Linear Equation word Problem (3 step)

Question

The number of prisoners under sentence of death was 3189 prisoners in 2012 and has decreased by about 38 prisoners per year since then. Let p be the number of death-row prisoners at y years since 2012.

a) find an equation of the model.

b)Predict when there will be 3000 death-row prisoners.

c) Predict the number of death-row prisoners in 2019.

 

 

(Please write out how you got b & c. I'm trying to understand how to make those equations as well)

P(t) = 3189 - 38(t-2012) where t is the year

= 3189 - 38t + 76456

= 79645 - 38t

(b)

3000 = 79645 - 38t

-76645 = -38t

t= 2016.9736842105263157894736842105‬

hmmmm.... expect 3000 of them in 2017

(c) P(2019) = 2923

note that 3000-38-38 = 2924
